My Take on Tiger Takes

I have stated to family and friends alike that I will not be writing a Tiger column. Like Mr. Woods, I believe in privacy. Let Tiger deal with his issues with his family. I don’t need to know what’s going on behind the curtain. A moral stand and whatnot. Plus, as my Mum said, “Man chasing skirt is the oldest story in the book.” Why is this news in the first place? College Football

College football is off and running at full speed now. It is a very interesting year for me, because this summer, after realizing the dream of going to Florida State and cheering for the ever dangerous Nole football team, I transferred to UGA. Read More…

The State of the WTA

This years US Open was one of the more exciting tennis tournaments in recent history. The men’s final was yet another 5-set battle, 17 year-old Melanie Oudin made a splash by taking out Elena Dementieva, Maria Sharapova and Nadia Petrova, fan favorite Kim Clijsters made an epic return to the game and Serena Williams scared the hell out of…well, everyone. But ultimately, when I look back upon this tournament, what sticks out the most is how the women’s game is in complete shambles. Read More…

More US Open Talk

The theme from my two days in Flushing Meadows can quite succinctly be summed up in one simple phrase: ups and downs. It was a wild weekend for tennis and here are some of my thoughts on all that I was able to witness. Read More…

Live from New York

This Labor Day weekend, my family and I made a pilgrimage to New York City (I <3 NY) to celebrate my Dad’s 50th birthday and catch some US Open tennis. I went to the US Open in 2007 and had an absolute blast. Whilst the history and tradition on Wimbledon is unmatched and spellbinding, the US Open is a lot of fun in terms of the atmosphere and player accessibility. Read More…

The American League vs. the National League

For awhile now, many American League fans have held a smug view of their league when compared to the National League. Bill Simmons of ESPN goes as far as to call the NL “AAAA” for being a step above AAA, but not quite major-league level. Being a Yankee fan, I too hold this view. Read More…

I.O.U.S.A. the movie

To all. This concerns you, and yours:

I watched a movie today in my political science class that is watched, I believe, in all political science classes here at UGA – as it should be. It was produced by Nixon’s ex-secretary of commerce, Pete Peterson, who is also an American businessman, investment banker, and fiscal conservative. It was funded by a nonpartisan committee and won awards at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. It gives a fantastic look into the history of our national debt, its current situation, and the dark and looming future in store for us. It basically categorizes our problems into four components: America’s budget, personal savings, trade, and leadership deficits.

Some of the interviews throughout the movie include Warren Buffett, Alan Greenspan, Paul Volcker, Robert Rubin, Alice Rivlin, Pete Peterson, David Walker, Paul O’Neill, James Areddy, Arthur Laffer, Steve Forbes, and Bill Bonner.

I would strongly recommend that all of you watch it. I will warn you though, it is VERY depressing and 30 min. long. It also really doesn’t offer a solution to the problem, but focuses more on presenting just the facts. I think this is primarily done to avoid the conception of being partisan one way or the other. I think it is important that we are all familiar with this situation and are able to take a stance and demand more from our representatives in Washington.

Also keep in mind that this video was filmed before President Obama was elected, and before the second stimulus package. So, things might have more hope, or look more dreary, depending on your perspective.

The Goods

I went to a VIP screening of Jeremy Piven’s new movie “The Goods” tonight, courtesy of Q100 and my man Frankie Torchia. The movie comes out on August 14th and has been getting a lot of hype as the writers of Talladega Nights and Step Brothers also wrote this movie.

Why Roger Federer is NOT done winning majors

My colleague here on NakedLap would like you to believe that the Fed-Express is done winning majors. While I do not pretend to know as much about tennis as J$, I am quite certain Roger has a major or two left in him. I will attempt to argue against some of his main points, and throw in a few of my own. Read More…
